Facts About Our Amazing Feet
The Foundation for our Entire Body
Do you know where one quarter of the bones in the human body are?
In our feet!! That's right! 26 bones, 19 muscles and 107 ligaments are used to control the movement of each foot. The average person takes 8,000-10,000 steps a day (roughly 115,000 miles over a lifetime- enough walking to circle the earth four times!).
When children are born, and throughout their toddler years, the bones of their little "piggies" are not yet ossified — they are still mostly cartilage.
Because these bones will not be fully formed until children are about eighteen years old,(give or take) they will easily deform if kept in short shoes. Because the bones are softest in the 0-4 age range, children will often not feel pain if their toes are squished up against the end of the shoe. Therefore, it is very important to check often to ensure
proper fit
and measure at least every one to three months. It is so important to invest in quality, supportive footwear and achieve a good fit — it is essential to the body's development!
